Therapy holds the realistic hope and meaningful possibility of making significant
changes in a positive direction in your life.
Examples of situations in which therapy can help are when someone:

feels sad, depressed, worried, anxious, or stressed
• wants to eliminate
self-defeating behaviors
• is dieting or overeating for
too long or it becomes a problem (eating disorders)
• is coping with
a new diagnosis of a serious problem such as HIV or cancer
• is dealing
with family changes such as separation and divorce
• is concerned with alcoholism
or addiction
• is trying to come to terms with a painful or traumatic personal
history
• feels stuck and has difficulty connecting with others
• is struggling expressing feelings or asserting themselves
• can't manage their anger and frustration
•
struggles with low self-esteem
• feels like they are not getting what
they want out of life
• makes bad choices parenting their children
• has difficulties relating to bosses or coworkers
•
wants to make healthier choices and end self-defeating behaviors
•
hopes for deepening self understanding and fulfillment in personal life

has difficulty trusting in relationships and/or history of marital conflicts

has past history of abuse or neglect
Examples specific to adolescents and
teenagers:
